The Reverse Catapult

(Warning: This one was immensely impulsive, driven entirely by a sullen mood. Please excuse the lack of a rhyme scheme. It’s overrated anyway.)

Ever felt the force of a catapult?

Not the one that propels you forward

but imagine it

yanking you back

face first,

you hurtle in to the ground

your mind in disbelief

telling you “Don’t back down.

“We’ll get started. All over again.”

How is it that

An inch from the finish line

Is in fact a journey of

Many painful millimeters?

But let’s look at it this way

That after plenty a road bumps

There’s often a smooth highway

So dust off the fury

Take failures in your stride

The show must go on

Let’s fill our glasses with

Optimism

Hope

And Fortitude

For now, that’s all we have

To toast this warrior spirit!
